How to Make a Study Plan

No matter what your learning or your study style, you may find that test taking is a stressful event in your life. You may become anxious and experience extreme stress on test days and if that happens your test taking ability will plumet. How do you control the anxiety? By creating a study plan in order to study start and learn everything you need to in the short amount of time available.

One of the difficult aspects of studying and test preparation is determining where to start. There are usually text book chapters to read, notes to review, and questions to answer. If your easily sidetracked or a big procrastinator, you probably find yourself running out of time to study. Control your procrastination and focus on your lessons better by creating a study plan.
A study plan can be as simple as a list of items you need to study or it can be as complicated as a time schedule that lists what to study and when. If you have never tried to use a study plan before, you may find that you get the best results from creating a “to-do list” of items you need to study and scheduling a specific time that you will study. If you are a procrastinator, you need to schedule a specific time instead of randomly saying you will study tomorrow. Because all procrastinators know that there is always something better to do than study.

If you are lucky enough to have a teacher that provides you a list of topics that will be on the test use the list of test topics to narrow down your focus and refine your study plan. Do not spend your time studying items that are not going to be on the test. While knowledge is great and you should be commended for wanting to learn more about a topic, save this goal for after the test. Focus your study time and you will actually be able to learn more because your only concentrating on the topics you need to remember in the short term.
